Question
I have tried so many times to lose weight and have always failed. Do you think I have developed anti-bodies against successful weight control?

Answer
No I don't. Research has shown that past failure does not predict future success or failure, at least in terms of weight control. Although it may not seem so, every attempt is independent of all previous attempts.

A good analogy is with giving up cigarette smoking. If you talk to people who have been successful in giving up, they will tell you that they made numerous attempts before, which were unsuccessful. And then on this one particular occasion they were successful. The same is true for successful weight control.

"It is important to acknowledge the fact that long-term Weight Control is DDA  - (Damn Difficult to Achieve) - so you need every bit of help you can get in order to be successful."

Question
Is it not the case that your weight is controlled by your genes and there is nothing you can do about it?

Answer
Although genes have a role in determining your body size and shape, they are not the whole answer. The fact is, people do lose weight when they are on a diet. And the large increase in the numbers of people who are now obese cannot be explained by genetic factors.

Question
Why, when I succeed in losing weight, do I always put it back on again?

Answer
This usually happens when people make a big effort to lose weight for a particular event, say a wedding or a special holiday. After it is over, they simply sink back into their previous ways of eating and exercise (usually no exercise) rather than making weight control a long-term goal.
